HEAD OF USER SERVICES

The Rutgers University Library for the Center for Law and Justice, in Newark, NJ, is seeking a Head of User Services. The Library for the Center for Law and Justice is a research library with a collection of over 500,000 volumes and volume-equivalents, and a staff of 25, including 10 professional librarians. The Library serves the faculty and students of both the School of Law and the School of Criminal Justice, and is also used by the practicing bar and the general public.
Responsibilities: The Head of User Services plans and oversees provision of all user services, including circulation, inter-library loan, reserves, reference, bibliographic instruction, and the faculty liaison service. This position supervises two Reference Librarians, the Government Documents Librarian, and seven full-time support staff. The Head of User Services also participates in the provision of reference services (including some evening and weekend duty), formal and informal instruction, and the faculty liaison program; compiles bibliographies and user guides, prepares exhibits, and compiles and maintains procedural manuals.
Conditions of employment: This is a full-time, calendar-year, tenure-track position. Rutgers is an EO/Affirmative Action employer.
Salary: Between $60,000 and $80,000.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have substantial law library or legal research experience and supervisory experience; facility at on-line searching and familiarity with electronic resources; a strong service orientation; excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Both an M.L.S. or equivalent from an ALA accredited program and a J.D. or equivalent from an ABA accredited proram are required. Strongly preferred will be candidates with law school library experience; successful managerial experience; demonstrated scholarship; and demonstrated leadership in professional associations.
